Main article: Evolution of Bugs Bunny
A rabbit with some nameless of personality, if not the physical properties of the arc, first appeared in the cartoon short Porky's Hare Hunt, released on April 30, 1938. Co-Ben Hardaway and directed by an anonymous Cal Dalton (who was responsible for the first draft of rabbit), that letter had an issue almost identical to the 1937 cartoon, Porky's Duck Hunt (directed by Tex Avery), which had introduced Daffy Duck. Porky was once a hunter tracking prey stupid, less interested in escaping from his pursuers voices that seemed to go crazy, this version of the black duck with a white rabbit. The rabbit was raised with the strange phrase "chiggers, loggers, and Mel Blanc gave the rabbit nearly the voice and laugh that used later for Woody Woodpecker. This cartoon also features the famous Groucho Marx line that Bugs often "The use, of course you know this means war!" The rabbit developed a following of the hearing this caricature Schlesinger, employees for the development of inspired character.
The first incarnation of rabbit debut in Porky's Hare Hunt (1938)
The rabbit is the second time was in 1939 Prest-O Change-O, by Chuck Jones, where the pet rabbit of Sham-Fu invisible nature run the Wizard. Two dogs, kennel local flight into the house of his absent master. The rabbit torture, but eventually will run at the higher of the two dogs.
His third appearance was in another 1939 cartoon, Hare-um Scare-um, Director Dalton and Hardaway. This is short, the first of which was represented as a gray bunny instead of a white, too much for the rabbit, singing the role first. Charlie Thorson, Lead Animator in the letter, was the first in the character of a name. He had written "Bugs 'Bunny' pattern on the record that he drew for Hardaway, implying the rabbit model sheet as property Hardaway. In promotional material for the short term (as a survivor Press Releases 1939), the name on the sheet model was name changed to become the rabbit: Bugs Bunny (the quotes are used only from the beginning), it is clear that in honor of "Bugs" Hardaway name.
Elmer's Candid Camera in Chuck Jones' first encounters the rabbit Elmer Fudd. THIS Hase has more of a physical resemblance to actual errors, and bigger and a similar face. The vote on this rabbit was not comparable to the famous Brooklyn-Bronx accent, but spoke in a rural section. In Robert Clampett Porky patient 1940, looks like a rabbit, the public thinks trick 750 rabbits were born (although the design of the white rabbit older).
In his later years, said Mel Blanc, that a proposed name "Happy Rabbit" was. We used Ironically, the only time the name "Happy" was in reference to errors Hardaway. In the cartoon Hare-um Scare-um, the headline reads: "Happy Hardaway.
Bugs Bunny is created
The official debut of Bugs Bunny in A Wild Hare (1940)
Bugs occurs in A Wild Hare by Tex Avery and released on July 27, 1940 is addressed, the first appearance of both Elmer and Bugs in its fully developed form. It was in this cartoon, first appeared out of his hole to ask Elmer Fudd, now a hunter and not as a photographer, "What is it, doctor?" Animation historian Joe Adamson A Wild Hare as the first "official" Bugs Bunny is a short. It is also the first cartoon where Mel Blanc uses a recognizable version of the voice of Bugs, Finally, the rule would be.
second appearance of Bugs Jones Elmer's Pet Rabbit finally introduced the audience to the name Bugs Bunny, which has been used so far only in the Termite Terrace staff. But the rabbit is absolutely identical to Jones' Elmer's Candid Camera earlier, both visually and vocally. Also was the first short in which, under their payroll now famous name, but the map, "with Bugs Bunny", had just struck at the end of the opening credits of short branches, when A Wild Hare proved an unexpected success. Soon became the most prominent of the Looney Tunes, his calmness, his impertinent Worry made to the American audience during and after the Second World War.

Wabbit Twouble was also the first of five Bugs shorts, a round of transformation Elmer Fudd, a short-lived attempt to operate Fudd more closely resemble his voice actor, comedian Arthur Q. Bryan have.
The Second World War
Until 1942, Merrie insects are a number of tunes from the series of stars, designed only for the characters at one time in shorts were introduced after some initial Harman-Ising attempts did not want character had, however, the introduction of new characters began in 1937 under Schlesinger. 1942 Bugs shorts included Friz Freleng The Wabbit Who Came to Supper, and Bob Clampett El loco shorts and Wabbit Bugs Bunny Gets the python (which introduced Beaky Buzzard). Bugs Bunny Gets the python also marks a slight redesign of errors, which makes its less prominent front teeth and his head round. The man responsible for this redesign was Robert McKimson, who currently works and animator Robert Clampett. The new design was first created only in the production team Clampett short, but over time, used accepted by the other directors that Freleng and Frank Tashlin, the first of this design to adopt. After his promotion to director of his own, McKimson created another version with more slanting eyes, the long teeth and a great big mouth, that he (and a cartoon of Bugs Bunny, who has directed, Art Davis) to be used until 1949, when he and the version designed to Clampett had begun. Jones would vary with changes in lighting, and voice and easily between units.
An alternative version of the bow of the Robert McKimson Davis and the type used between 1946 and 1949.

Bugs was popular during World War II, because it's easy and free Attitude, and began a treatment of star billing in his cartoons especially after 1943. At this time, Warner Bros. Cartoon Studio was the most profitable in the States USA. Like other studies had cartoons, like Disney and Famous Studios fact, Warner put Bugs in opposition to the period of greatest enemies: Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, and the Japanese. Since the debut of Bugs in A Wild Hare, had appeared only in cartoons color Merrie Melody (was one of the few recurring characters in the series Leon Schlesinger of the time, before full conversion to color, as well as prototype Egghead Elmer, Inki, sniffing, and Elmer itself – they had heard, but not in the 1942 Looney Tunes cartoon seen crazy news, and made his first formal appearance in this series in 1943 to duck or not is the Duck). While 1943 was a cameo and Luke Feat Porky Porky cartoons marking his only appearance in a black and white Looney Tune cartoon, not in a Looney Tunes cartoon series stars in this series published up to complete conversion to color cartoon, beginning 1944th Buckaroo Bugs cartoon is Looney Tunes Bugs first of the series and was also the last story of Leon Schlesinger BM credit.

This Cameo (inspired by Robert McKimson to provide the voice of Mel Blanc), Bugs appears in a rabbit hole, said his usual descriptor, Bugs then says: "I have a wrong image" and then goes back into the hole. The postwar period
A scene from Bewitched Bunny (1954)
A slight modification of how the character would be developed in the 1950s are part of Bewitched Bunny (1954) seen. The inner parts of the pink ears were gradually reduced the V shape at the top and oval eyes, and seek a V-shaped lid replaced. Her cheeks protrude more, and the body is compressed more as a comparison, as it was developed in the 1940s, which marked with points of view different as it is today.
Since then numerous errors in animated shorts appeared in the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies, making his last appearance in the theatrical cartoons in 1964 with False Hare. It was by Friz Freleng, Robert McKimson, Arthur Davis and Chuck Jones directed and starred in feature films, including Who Framed Roger Rabbit (That included the first meetings between the errors and their rivals at the box office Mickey Mouse), Space Jam (the co-favorite Michael Jordan) and the 2003 film Tunes Tunes: Back in Action.

According to the classical era cartoon
When Mel Blanc died in 1989, Jeff Bergman, Joe and Billy West became the new voices Alaskey Bugs Bunny and other Looney Tunes, the voices at different times.
Bugs has compound also made appearances in providing entertainment for network television, especially the classic cartoons with bridge material, in particular, as Bugs Bunny Won the West and Bugs Bunny Mystery Special. 1980 Bugs Bunny running around, however, does not contain the vintage clips shown and the first new Bugs Bunny cartoons in 16 years. Bugs Bunny star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Like Mickey Mouse for The Walt Disney Company has served as mascot errors Warner Bros. Studios and its various departments. He and Mickey are the first cartoon characters a have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
1988 is shown in animation and live action film Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Bugs one of the inhabitants of Toontown. However, since the film was produced by Disney, Warner Bros. would allow only the use of its biggest star, when he lost the same amount of screen time as the biggest star of Disney Mickey Mouse. For this reason, the two characters are always together when, as part of the screen. Appear in a scene where Eddie Valiant is skydiving, while (Bob Hoskins) has no parachute, so the errors provides a "reserve" that are determined to be a spare. Appear at the end and, together with all other Toons. For the same reasons error Mickey never called by name, only to him as "Doc" (Mickey, during his "calling Bugs").
Bugs Bunny returned to the canvas in Box Office Bunny in 1990. This was the first Bugs Bunny cartoon short in 1964 will be released in theaters, and was Bugs Bunny Celebration of the 50th Jubilee created. Bugs an appearance in the 1990 drug prevention video Cartoon All-Star to the Rescue. This offer is for being the first time a Mel Blanc who expressed considerable Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck (which were made by Jeff Bergman.)
In 1997, Bugs appeared on a U.S. postage stamp honored the first animation of the iconic Mickey Mouse. The stamp is number seven on the list of U.S. postage stamps top ten, as purchased by the number of stamps calculated, but not used. The introduction of errors in a postage stamp at the time was controversial, as seen as a step to the "commercialization" of the seal era art. The Postal Service rejected many designs and went with a post-issue subscription. Avery Dennison printed the Bugs Bunny stamp sheet, "presented a special stamp of the TEN-Design and was the first self-Block issued by the United States Postal Service. "
A younger version of errors is the main character Baby Looney Tunes, which debuted on Cartoon Network (USA) in 2002. In the action comedy Loonatics Unleashed, his descendant, Ace Bunny is the ultimate team leader and inherited from their ancestors seem Loonatics Brooklyn accent and comic wit. Who is Lexi Bunny Lola Bunny descendants seems to be confirmed, his deputy and interest probable love. Danger Duck, a descendant of Luke, has a similar relationship with him to that between Bugs and Daffy – the envy (jealousy, in extreme cases) mixed with a grudging respect.
Bugs have been published in numerous video games, including Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle series, Bugs Bunny Birthday Blowout Bugs Bunny: Rabbit Bugs Bunny and the Rampage as Double Trouble, Looney Tunes Racing B-Ball, Space Jam, Looney Tunes, Looney Tunes: Space Race, Bugs Bunny Lost in Time, and then Bugs Bunny and Taz Time Busters, and Looney Tunes: Back in Action and the new video game Looney Tunes: Acme Arsenal.
Personality and Keywords
Bugs has feuds with Elmer Fudd, Yosemite Sam, Marvin the Martian, Beaky Buzzard, Daffy Duck, Tasmanian Devil, Cecil Turtle, Witch Hazel, Rocky and Mugsy, Wile E. Coyote, CBC count and many others. Errors almost always wins these conflicts, a pattern that Looney Tunes land in films directed by Chuck Jones returns. Concerned that the public will lose sympathy the protagonist, who had always won, Jones trying to intimidate the opposing characters repeatedly, threatening or defraud Bugs, who has been his own business hats. It is also known by the Fourth Wall "to communicate" break with the public, which could be explained by the situation (for example, "with you, people in a minute! ") describes someone who the public (for example," Feisty, eh? "), Etc.
Bugs are usually trying to appease the enemy and avoid conflict, but if the opponent pushes him too far from the mistakes can attract an audience and invoke its motto "Of course, you realize this means war! "Before they come, and retaliation will be devastating. This line of Groucho Marx and others, in the 1933 film Duck Soup, and was also made in the film 1935 A Night at the Opera Marx used. Bugs would pay homage to Groucho in other ways, and occasionally leaned on the assumption of a foot or a smile Eyebrow funds (in Hair-Raising Hare, for example) or sometimes with a direct impersonation (as in Slick Hare).
Other directors like Friz Freleng, insects that altruistic. When errors meets other characters of success (as Cecil Turtle in Tortoise Beats Hare, or, in World War II, the Gremlin of Falling Hare) Overconfidence be a disadvantage.
In the 1940s, was immature insects and wild, but it did in the 1950s, his personality and his attitude was less hectic. However, worth noting that some think that this change of personality Bugs marked a significant decline in the quality of his cartoons. Although often the most vicious and violent Bugs is actually better than never malicious, and as such only in self-defense against their attacker, the only cartoon where Bugs always served as a true villain, Bugs Buckaroo.
Bugs Bunny carrot chewing indifferent foot, "as Chuck Jones, Friz Freleng, Bob Clampett and said, originated in a scene from the movie It Happened a night that is modeled after Clark Gable character in a fence, eating carrots and talking quickly with his mouth full to Claudette Colbert's character. This scene was known, while the film was very popular, and the public at the time probably knew Bugs Bunny behavior as satire.
The scenes are chewing carrot errors in the rule, followed Bunny famous phrase, "What is it, doctor?" Director Tex Avery for his first Bugs Bunny short A Wild Hare Written 1940. Avery explained later that it is a common expression in his native Texas, and that he was not much of a sentence. The film was the first time in cinemas, beat the "What going, doctor? "Scene creates a very positive response from the audience. As a result, the scene was a predominant theme in the later films and cartoons. Sentencing was changed to a situation sometimes. For example, says Bugs "What's up, dog?" the antagonist in a rabbit Grows in Manhattan "What's new Duke? Knight of the Knight-mare Hare and "What happens, prune face?" at the age of Elmer in The Old Grey Hare. Lucas could also greet with "What's up, Duck? "He used a variant:" What is the whole center of bubbles, bubbles? "only once, in Falling Hare. Another variant is used in Looney Tunes: Back in Action presents as a lightsaber-wielding Marvin the Martian "What's up, Darth?"
Several Chuck Jones short at the end of 1940 and 1950 show errors journey through cross-country (and in some cases, digging intercontinental) of the tunnel, in places such as Mexico (Bully for Bugs varies, 1953) in the Himalayas (The Abominable Snow Rabbit, 1960) and Antarctica (Frigid Hare, 1949), because all the "should have, which left Toin Albukoikee taken. "He spoke for the first time this phrase in Herr Meets Hare (1945), as it arises in the Black Forest, a cartoon is rarely seen today because of its current issue openly. When Hermann gring errors say: "There is in Las Vegas" Chermany "and takes a Potshot Bugs, Bugs dives into its hole and says," Joimany! Yipee! "As see errors behind enemy lines. The confused response to "Left Toin 'comment followed a pattern. For example, if he is in Scotland in 1948 my bunny tunnel is located on the sea, while he thinks that for the La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles, California, it provides a new opportunity for a stereotype Ethnicity: "The Pits Therrre Brrrea Tarrr not in Scotland!" (Which Bugs replies, "Uh … what's up, Mac, Doc?"). In late some shorts of the 1950s of this strain also had the travel bug Daffy Duck ("Since when is Pismo Beach ?!"). in a cave
Bugs Bunny has some similarities to figures from mythology and folklore, such as Brer Rabbit, Anansi or Nanabozho and could be seen as a modern trickster (used for example deliberately provided transvestism). Unlike most cartoon characters, Bugs Bunny, but is rare in their own games cunning tricks. An exception this is short Hare Brush, Elmer Fudd in which ultimately carries the day at the end, but keep in mind that the critics in this short, Bugs and Elmer take each personalitieshrough mental illness and hypnosis, respectivelynd is only for errors, you can earn Elmer. However, Bugs has been beaten at their own game. In the short Duck Amuck torments Daffy Duck, as the animator not seen, ending with the line, "I am not a scoundrel?" Bugs feels the same wrath of an animator in the near invisible Rabbit Rampage, where he was again tortured by Elmer Fudd. At the end of the clip Elmer cheerfully exclaims: "Now I have finally scwewy wabbit!"
Although usually Porky Pig, cartoons BM to an end with his stammer, which was all, folks! " Bugs appear from time to time one breaks through drum as Porky, but has a carrot-nibbling and said in his Brooklyn Bronx accent, "And the end of dat!"
The name "Bugs" or "Bugsy" like an old nickname is "Crazy" (or "crazy"). had several celebrities in the first half of the twentieth century that nickname. It is now out of fashion as a nickname, but survives in 1950s-1960s expressions like "you're annoying me," as in "You're driving me crazy."
Bugs takes white gloves, which is known to remove long hair in Hare. In this episode, Bugs claimed by the famous conductor Leopold Stokowski and asked to sing opera star Giovanni Jones "and in a high tone. When Giovanni Jones turns red with strain Bugs slides his left hand glove, leaving the glove box floating in the air, Jones to command, to continue to hold the high note. Bugs settings then mail order until fall, then a pair of earrings. Bugs puts on the ear and then zips again in the amphitheater and then placed his hand into the glove as a singer Jones writhing on stage, yet, that the same high note).
Bugs Bunny is also a Master of Disguise: Can not be used to hide the fact that to confuse his enemies in Bowery Bugs uses five panels: Fakir, Gentleman, women, Baker, and finally a policeman. This ability to camouflage is famous because we can see errors, while at the same time, recognizing that its enemies have been detained. Bugs has had some sympathy for female disguise: Taz, Elmer Fudd, Yosemite Sam on this sexy Bunny (female) and cheat on adjusted Hare, Sam discovers the true face of "Grandma" (panel Bugs) in the church, where they try to marry.
Rabbit or hare?
The animators throughout Bugs' history have treated the terms rabbit and hare as synonymous. Taxonomically not consistent, if somewhat similar, but noted the different types of lagomorphs. hares may have much longer ears than rabbits, so errors seem to be the family of hares, and many more comics, the word "rabbit" and not as a "rabbit." In the cartoons, although the term "hare" comes at times (for example, drinking Bugs "Hare Tonic" Fall No More "hands" and "restorative the hare is poured over "to bring him back to invisibility) Bugs, and their antagonists mostly relate to the character as" Rabbit. "The word "Hare" is helpful in answering this question, as a synonym of young rabbits and rabbits.
The Nike ads with Michael Jordan, Bugs has been called the "Jordan" Hare ".
The opening and closing
In the opening many of the Bugs Bunny cartoons include Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies Bugs Bunny head rings Warner Bros. label (usually 1944 and 1949). Bugs Bunny DIFFERENT have relaxation at the beginning of the Warner Bros. screen: He bit the carrot in its looks angrily at the camera and put the following logo (Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies) as a window shade (usually in cartoons from 1945 until early 1949). Then he lifted her again, now to be seen, are their own name, then the title of the specific brief. chewed in other cases, the tab title fades sometimes already in your name and the carrot then vanish in the name of the film. At the end of some Bugs escapes from a barrel (as Porky) and says: "And that's the end. "
Voice Actor
The following are the many voice actors, character Bugs Bunny is expressed in years, seventy seen:
Mel Blanc voiced the character for 49 years, from Bugs debut in A Wild Hare (1940) to Blanc died in 1989. Blanc's voice is described as a combination of the Bronx and Brooklyn accents, but Tex Avery said he asked Blanc, the character does not give New York accent per se, but a voice like that of actor Frank McHugh, who frequently appeared in papers sharing in the 1930s and whose voice could be described as New York Irish. Errors in "Pet seconds Elmer cartoon rabbit, Blanc created a completely voice again for the bugs, which sounded like an impression of Jimmy Stewart, but decided to directors, the voice of the first was better. Although his most famous character was the rabbit carrot chewing, chewing carrots, interrupted the dialogue. various alternatives, such as celery, were tried, but none of them sounded like a carrot. So for reasons opportunity, he Munch, and then spit the carrot bits into a spittoon rather than swallowing, and continue the dialogue. A story repeated, possibly for Bugs Bunny: Superstar, is that he was allergic to carrots, and had to spit, to minimize an allergic reaction, but his autobiography makes no claim in fact, in a 1984 interview with Tim Lawson, co-author of "The Magic Behind the Voices: A Who's Who of Cartoon Voice Actors (University Press of Mississippi, 2004), decided the dispute Blanc allergic to carrots.
Jeff Bergman was the first error I have the honor to express (and some other Looney Tunes characters) after Mel Blanc died in 1989. He got the job with impressive by Warner Bros. up a tape of himself to recreate the voices of several characters Blanc, including Bugs Bunny. He had manipulated the recorder, to use a switch, to go back and forth between the original recording and registering Blanc Bergman change the line. In this way, it was almost impossible to tell the manufacturers, language and voice Blanc was Bergman, so that her vocal ability has been established and his career was launched.
Bergman first expressed errors during the 1990 Academy Awards, and then in the locker Bunny, a short 4 minute Looney Tunes released in 1990, to celebrate the anniversary of Bugs sessions. Bergman next vote in 1991, Bugs Bunny short (Blooper) Bunny, a cartoon director Greg Ford produced to coincide with Bugs Bunny anniversary. However, the abstract, never received theatrical release schedule and was on hold for years until rediscovered aired Cartoon Network and later on their channel a few years. (Blooper) Bunny since gained a cult following among fans of animation for the use of sharp humor. Other works, to refrain Bergman Bug Invasion of the Bunny Snatchers (an obvious parody of 1950s sci-fi classic Invasion are the Body Snatchers), Tiny Toon Adventures (a popular TV in the early nineties that the classic Looney Tunes characters as mentors to their younger colleagues presented) in the first season Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue (TV Children at special risk of marijuana). Bergman will remain the voice of Bugs Bunny to do until 1993.
Greg Burson first Bugs expressed in later episodes Tiny Toon Adventures. He then is responsible for expressing Carrotblanca Bugs in 1995, a well-preserved 8-cartoon Looney Tunes minutes was originally shown in cinemas, as well as the amazing adventure of Panda (USA) and the stone and the Penguin (Non-US), which has been launched video packaged with older Looney Tunes cartoons and was included in the special edition DVD release of Casablanca, of which there is both a parody and homage. Burson said bugs in the 1996 short From Hare to Eternity, the film is in the heritage of their remarkable had just died Friz Freleng, and that the end of Looney Tunes cartoons, Chuck Jones directed. Greg Burson also provided the voice of Bugs on Bugs and Daffy Show, which ran on Cartoon Network from 1996-2003. He died in 2008.
Billy West is in television since the late 1980s. His first role was revived for the 1988 version of Bob Clampett Beany and Cecil. Role of the West progress was almost immediately as the voice of Ren and Stimpy Ren later & Stimpy John Kricfalusi. West has been the voice talent of nearly 120 different characters, including some of the characters most iconic animated television history. Perhaps the most notable work was the cowboy movie in the movie Space Jam 1996. Working with Michael Jordan, the West provided the voice of Bugs Bunny and Elmer both Fudd. West continue, the roles of errors in the next Looney Tunes productions, including his appearances in reprise Histeria!, The Kids WB '! Spots and the 2006 Christmas-themed special events Bah, Humduck! A Looney Tunes Christmas and DVD collections of "Reality Check" and "Stranger Than Fiction", along with several CD's Looney Tunes-centric, comics and video games. Billy West, along with other Alaskey announcer Joe as one of the successors of the current Mel Blanc to imitate the voice of Bugs Bunny accredited.
Joe Alaskey, Jeff Bergman is known for its ability to successfully treat many Looney Tunes mimic known. Yosemite Sam Alaskey indeed expressed in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, which is an original voice actor Mel Blanc, largely on his vocal cords. (This Sam makes one of the few voices that created by Blanc to be the voice of another person during his lifetime.) Alaskey Joe's first performance as Bugs Bunny came in the 2003 feature film Looney Tunes: Back in Action, although I had already tried the application of the function in previous projects such as High Flying Adventure Tweety. While it remains best known for being the voice of Daffy Duck, has also been the voice of Bugs Alaskey 'in several subsequent productions, including the presidency Pato Lucas (who published in the Looney Tunes Golden Collection: Volume 2 is engaged, then recently deceased Chuck Jones) and latest video games. Joe Alaskey, along with fellow voice actors Billy West, credited as one of the current locations of Mel Blanc in impersonating the voice of Bugs Bunny.
Samuel Vincent served as the voice of Bugs in Cartoon Network TV series Baby Looney Tunes.
Noel Blanc, son of Mel Blanc, said the insects for the Tiny Toons special It's a Wonderful Tiny Toon Christmas Special. The largest Blanc asked in his later years Mel Noel various substituted animation studios, including Warner Bros. errors, while he was recovering from an accident car nearby. Noel can be seen attending to the voice of Bugs with his father in the documentation relating to the manufacture are the film Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Noel said Elmer Fudd in a cut-scene for the animated television series Family Guy (in "Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story").
